Getting Stronger
Sometimes, things feel impossible. But over time, you get stronger.
Right now, I am grateful for every bit of energy I invested into getting stronger over the last couple of years. Past me did me a solid.
I would not be able to work the way I work right now or to use the kind of energy I use if I hadn't started training the basics five years ago.
I eat properly most of the time. I sleep properly most of the time. I move more often than not, and I have eliminated most of my distractions and social addictions.
The truth is, I wouldn't be able to work through this album if I still had a bunch of unhealthy relationships or spent all my time soaking up drama in WoW.
I am not perfect, but I have enough of a routine and good enough self-care habits to fall back on regularly. Things still get tight from time to time and I need a reset, but the fact that I notice it in time to actually do something is a huge improvement.
I've also worked through most of my confidence issues and figured out how to not get blocked creatively. I learned that if I show up to do the work, creativity will take care of itself. I also learned what environment and habits I need in order to even be able to show up to do the work.
I can do more now than I ever could at any previous time in my life. And I feel better doing it.
Getting the basics right is incredibly important.
So, if you're still dreaming of doing something big one day, start small. Are you sleeping well? Are you eating well enough? Are you moving?
Other than that, finding routine in an activity that involves creativity can do a ton to boost your confidence. For me, the first thing I stuck to creatively was writing. I learned how to write every day before I learned how to work on my vocals every day.
Writing every day and publishing something, even if just to a few readers, has done wonders against any sort of creative block.
